As you greet this promising new year, I have four wishes for you:
Peace. With whatever tugs at your heart or wakes you in the middle of the night. I don’t know what it is, but I do know that you have the capacity to handle it. Remind yourself of that, often. And let yourself rest in the not knowing – so that you can look around you and see the love and the goodness… and the open door.
Steadfastness. For the continued pursuit of the longings deep within your heart, no matter how crazy or far away they might seem. Face yourself in the direction of those dreams, and keep stepping, picking yourself up and stepping, again. If you do, you will be well on your way to what you desire… or something even better.
Courage. To stand in front of the mirror, drop your clothes, and smile at what you see. For real. Because no matter what you think beauty should look like, may you see – and embrace – the real beauty that is yours and only yours. And wear it unabashedly.
Light-heartedness. May you walk about the world with the wonder and curiosity and good cheer of a child. Don’t be so hard on yourself, for you carry that harshness around with you in the world (and in the relationships with those you love). Love, play, enjoy. Trust that these things are far more important than all of the doing on your lists. Because within those things is life, itself.
May it be a year of embracing all the beauty within and around you.
